Let us introduce you to Nate Mell, founder of Felt+Fat in Philadelphia, long time friend of Corinne who used to visit the Pennsylvanien city every year since 2012. Yep, 10 years of love and respect for the art community of this wonderful and colourful city.

Felt+Fat creates handcrafted beautiful, high-quality tableware in the Kensington neighbourhood of Philadelphia since 2014. Once a dense manufacturing center with a thriving middle class community, the neighbourhood declined into poverty as factories were shuttered in the 1960s. Today, Kensington is known for being the epicenter of the opioid crisis in the Northeastern United States. In spite of all this, the community sees hope as young entrepreneurs, makers, builders and artists have been working to revitalized this corner of the city. They are proud to be a part of this movement and excited to help create jobs and beauty in this place they call home. Each one of their products is made by hand, by well-paid staff who enjoy generous PTO, medical benefits and a clean, friendly working environment.

When it comes to materials, they invest in high quality porcelain and fire at high temperatures, which means the products last longer and just plain feel different.

But why is this relevant now? In a world of rapid fire media and streaming consumerism amid a background of aggressive politics and environmental destruction maybe we are looking for an alternative and more positive way to interact with the world around us.

Surrounding ourselves with fewer but better-made objects seems like a comforting place to start. Connecting and supporting the makers of these goods seems like an even better idea.

A perfect match between ceramic and leather : the cutest espresso cup paired with a leather tassel. Tie it to your favorite HOTELMOTEL bag or sneakers. Use them together or separately even though it won’t bring as much luck when they’re apart. The cup can easily be removed from the strap for a quick fix of espresso at your local café. Mounted on a key ring with a hook, you can keep adding your favorite trinkets or your keys. The cup are made with TLC by Felt+Fat team and the tassel is handmade by Corinne and Niki using this amazing taurillon leather from a family-run tannery in France.
